A summer packed with exciting sports!
Get ready, sports fans! This summer, some of the biggest sporting events in the world are happening all around the globe. From football to cycling, tennis to rugby, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
Football fever in the USA and Switzerland
Starting on June 15 and running until July 13, the FIFA Club World Cup takes place in the United States. Here, top men’s football clubs from different continents compete to find out who is the best in the world. This is a brand new tournament, so it will be interesting to see who will be the first winner.
Then, from July 2 to 27, the Women’s Euro 2025 kicks off in Switzerland. It’s an exciting tournament where the best women’s national football teams in Europe battle it out for the trophy.
Wimbledon: Tennis’s biggest stage
From June 30 to July 13, tennis players head to London for Wimbledon, one of the most famous tennis tournaments on the planet. Players compete on grass courts in a tradition that goes back over 100 years.
Most matches take between one to three hours, but some can go on for longer. The world record is an incredible 11 hours and 5 minutes!

Rugby and racing thrills
Rugby fans have plenty to look forward to this summer. From June 28 to August 2, the British & Irish Lions tour Australia to play against the Australian national team. The Lions team is made up of the best players from England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
Then, from August 22 to September 27, England hosts the Women’s Rugby World Cup, where the best female players in the world show their skills and strength.
For those who love speed, the British Formula 1 Grand Prix races at Silverstone from July 4 to 6. It’s one of the most famous car races in the world, with drivers racing around the track at lightning-fast speeds.
Golf, cycling and swimming
The Open Championship, held from July 17 to 20 at Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland, is the oldest major golf tournament in the world. The first one was way back in 1860. Golfers from all over the world come to compete for the famous silver trophy, known as the Claret Jug.
Cycling fans can watch the Tour de France, which runs from July 5 to 27. It’s a very tough race across France’s mountains and countryside that tests riders’ strength and endurance. The prize for the winner of each stage is an unusual one, they get to wear a yellow jacket for the next race. The overall winner gets €500,000. I know which prize I’d prefer!
Finally, from July 11 to August 3, the World Aquatics Championships take place in Singapore. You may not have heard of this event before, but only the Olympics is more important to the world’s best swimmers, divers, and water sports athletes. And just like the Olympics, the competitors are all trying to get their hands on a medal, especially a shiny gold one.
