A night to remember
On Saturday night, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) became football champions of Europe after beating Inter Milan 5–0 in the final.
It was the first time the team from Paris had won the UEFA Champions League, a tournament that many people believe is the best and most exciting in the world of football.
Final showdown in Munich
The final was played in Munich, Germany. Many fans expected a close game because Inter Milan had played brilliantly in the semi-finals, beating Barcelona in one of the best matches in years. But the Italian team couldn’t match that performance in the final. PSG were simply too fast, too strong, and too clever.
It was a record-breaking match. No team had ever won a Champions League final by five goals before. The young and exciting team from Paris were just too good for the older team from Milan.
A teenage star shines
The man of the match was 19-year-old Désiré Doué. He scored two goals and assisted another.
Although this was PSG’s first Champions League trophy, it’s not the first time a French team has won it. Marseille were champions back in 1993. Now, fans are wondering: will this be the start of a new era for French football?
To celebrate, the PSG players rode through the streets of Paris on an open-top bus. Thousands of fans came to see the team and the giant silver trophy, and to thank their heroes for finally winning the Champions League. You can learn more about Paris Saint-Germain Football Club on their website.
